De artistieke praktijk van Floor Snels draait om het onderzoeken van sociale verhoudingen binnen structuren en gemeenschappen, waarbij ze zich vooral focust op hiërarchieën en collectieve identiteit. In haar werk brengt ze het individuele en het collectieve samen, waarbij ze lokale vraagstukken verbindt met meer universele thema’s.
Vanuit haar filosofische achtergrond focust Snels op ethiek, onderzoekt ze verschillende perspectieven op rechtvaardigheid en richt ze zich op het openen van onze morele cirkel. Dit stuurt de sterke moraal van Snels, maar ze claimt niet de waarheid te kennen. Steeds vraagt ze zich af: “Wat is het verhaal? Moeten we het opnieuw vormgeven?”
Op de achtergrond van haar projecten is een hoopvol streven naar het goede aanwezig. Ieder project is een poging tot een stap richting een ideale wereld. Dit krijgt vorm in een essayistische werkmethode waarbij ze procesmatig te werk gaat en op een speelse manier ruimte geeft aan subjectieve inzichten. Het is een tool om tot gesprek te komen en verschillende interpretaties te verbinden.
De vorm van haar werk is fluïde en past zich aan de context aan. Het is vaak verhalend van aard en ze werkt met verschillende media. Het kan sculpturale vormen aan nemen, die ondersteund worden door interventies en interactieve elementen die vaak in de openbare ruimte plaatsvinden. In presentatieruimtes werkt Snels vaak met video, archieven, workshops en (lecture)performances.
Floor Snels’ artistic practice revolves around investigating social relationships within structures and communities, with a particular focus on hierarchies and collective identity. In her work, she brings together the individual and the collective, connecting local issues to more universal themes.
With a background in philosophy, Snels focuses on ethics, exploring different perspectives on justice and expanding our moral circle. This informs her strong sense of morality, yet she does not claim to hold the ultimate truth. She continuously asks: "What is the story? Should we reshape it?"
A hopeful pursuit of the good is ever-present in the background of her projects. Each project is an attempt to take a step toward an ideal world. This takes shape through an essayistic working method in which she follows a process-based approach, playfully allowing space for subjective insights. Her work functions as a tool to initiate conversations and connect different interpretations.
The form of her work is fluid, adapting to the context. It is often narrative in nature, employing various media. It can take on sculptural forms, supported by interventions and interactive elements, frequently situated in public spaces. In presentation settings, Snels often works with video, archives, workshops, and (lecture) performances.
